I am a 52 your old Christain female. I was diagnosed with Major Depression over 20 years ago, as well as Spinal Stenosis. I have had numerous hospitlizations for my mental condition and it has caused me to be unable to hold down a job. I just was released the first of April 2012 from a facility that I had been in for 11 months. I had the blessing of being able to be qualifiy for a government voucher program that has set me up with an apartment and food stamps, but I have no resources to pay for medicines or daily living expenses. Mental illness has a HUGE stigma in society. People think that if you look Ok on the outside, there is nothing wrong with you, or they think if you have a mental illness you are "crazy" and some even think you might be dangerous. I would not wish this illness on anyone, but I wish people could somehow understand the depths and side effects of this disease. Most of my family want to "sweep it under the rug" I understand that to a point, but it hurts me deply that I'm not "normal" in their eyes. As for the Spinal Stenosis, it has caused degeneration of my spine , making it nearly impossible to stand or sit for long amounts of time. I find it hard to write these things about myself, I've always been one to try and make it on my own, but after a my divorce in 2003, it has been a DEEP struggle to provide for mysel even the most basic of daily needs, I know that God will take care of me and maybe this is one way of Him doing that. Maybe He directed me to this website. I have read others stories and they are heartbreaking, I pray God will provide for them as well. Any amount of financial assistance would be beyond deep appreciation!!!!! God bless you!!!!!
